6 Mistakes to Avoid When Choosing a Plastic Surgeon

6 Mistakes to Avoid When Choosing a Plastic Surgeon

In the year 2015 alone, there were 1.7 million cosmetic operations carried out in the United States. In the year prior, the total spending on Botox in America exceeded $2 billion. There are plenty of key indicators to tell that a plastic surgeon is dependable, but it is even more essential to make sure that you don’t make the wrong choice. The following are some of the biggest mistakes to avoid when weighing your options for cosmetic surgery providers.

Choosing a plastic surgeon whose clinic is infamous for poor customer service

Though it may not be immediately apparent when examining the surgeon’s past work and credentials, the quality of customer service in their clinic is a crucial factor. Be sure to look up reviews of different patients’ experiences and pay special attention to any comments that mention the attentiveness and friendliness of the staff.

Failing to account for the safety of the facility

A dependable plastic surgeon is not only skilled, but makes sure that their facility is up to standard; this is more than just a matter of professionalism on their part, but also your safety. Make sure to determine just how highly the surgeon’s operating room has been accredited.

Failing to ask about the credentials of the anesthetist or anesthesiologist

There are patients who have had to face the consequences of an incompetent or inadequately-credentialed staff member handling their anesthesia administration during the procedure. No matter what, make sure to confirm that a Board Certified anesthetist or anesthesiologist will be involved in the operation.

Choosing a surgeon with whom you have no real rapport

Getting cosmetic surgery can easily be one of the biggest personal decisions and riskiest medical procedures of your life; naturally, you will want a plastic surgeon that you can openly trust and feel comfortable with on a personal level. In addition to their skill level, consider just how comfortable you feel in the surgeon’s company.

Choosing a surgeon with an opinion of attractiveness that differs from your own

Positive aesthetics are a subjective matter, and there is too much at stake in a cosmetic procedure to assume that a surgeon’s idea of beauty is identical to yours. Before settling on any facility, make a point to confirm that both your ideal outcome and the results that they have produced are in alignment.

Choosing a surgeon who has never performed the operation you want

No cosmetic surgeon can be too experienced the specific type of procedure that you desire. No matter what the quality of their unrelated operations might be, make sure the confirm that the surgeon can be counted on to provide results for your specific procedure.

Choosing the right plastic surgeon means paying close attention to everything that isn’t immediately visible. The above suggestions will not only help to ensure that you get the results that you want, but they could also potentially save your life.

5 Things to Know Before Going on a Rafting Trip

5 Things to Know Before Going on a Rafting Trip

Preparing for a rafting adventure can take some work and planning, but it will pay off by helping you get ready to have the safest and best time. Here are five things you need to know before you go on a rafting trip.

Rafting is a Sport
When you watch rafters on video or television, it may not look like they are doing that much work. But in truth, rafting can burn 300 or more calories for each hour of rafting exertion.

So you will want to get as fit as you can before your rafting trip so you avoid the discomfort of extra soreness during the trip.

Rafting Safety Is a Must
When you are rafting, you are away from civilization, cell phone service and all the comforts of home. Of course, this is why most people go rafting! But if you do experience an injury or get ill, you will be far away from your usual sources of medical care.

So be sure you bring along a basic first aid kit and some basic instructions so you can treat any minor injury and go back to enjoying the trip.

Rafting Requires Proper Protective Attire
For most tours, wearing a life vest and a helmet of some sort are required. This is because, in the case you do fall out of the raft, you will be as protected as possible until you can be retrieved.

If you plan to raft without a guide, you should still wear a helmet and life vest as well as lightweight clothing that dries quickly.

Rafting Exposes You to the Elements
Even if your big day arrives and the weather seems cool or overcast, this doesn’t mean you won’t be exposed to the full spectrum of ultraviolet rays and sun. Also, the you are out on the water, the sun will reflect off the water and be more intense.

So slather on the sunscreen. For extra protection, wear a sun-repellant hat (with a chin strap). Also be sure to wear UV-blocking sunglasses (with a strap) for eye protection.

Pick the Right Difficulty Level for Your Skill
If you are just learning to raft, you don’t want to sign up for a Level VI course. This is the hardest level! Even if you think it will be too easy, you may want to start out with a Level I course so you can learn the basics in a stress-free environment.

By taking the time to learn what you need to know, do and plan for before your rafting trip, you can prepare physically, mentally and safety-wise to have the most memorable and fun trip possible.

3 Lessons to take away from 3D Technology

3 Lessons to take away from 3D Technology

3D technology includes laser scanners and printers. The technology makes it possible to fabricate exact three dimensional replicas of objects in a digital file. In printing, additive processes are used to create layers until the object that is in the digital file is replicated. Although the technology is still being developed and fine tuned, many sectors are benefiting from it including manufacturing, medicine and many others. As per an article in the New York Times, it might be possible to get your next pair of shoes produced by 3D technology in the very near future. Below are lessons that can be taken from the technology.

1. Nothing is impossible with technology

Traditional methods of fabricating everything included the use of crude processes such as plastic injection molding and related processes. These were difficult to deal with and they do not produce accurate results. Besides, one had to create a prototype, spend many weeks fine tuning the mold and then go into mass production. With the 3D printer, the only thing that you need to do is create the image of the prototype that you want produced and give the command to print. The process is accurate and consumes less time.

2. Technology makes education more exciting

A study was conducted among a group of students between the ages 10 and 12. The first group was shown how to create an illustration of a plant cell using the traditional 2D technology while the second group was taught how to apply the 3D model. The first observation that was made was that a typical lesson that needs 2 lessons to be understood using 2D technology was covered in just one class when using 3D. Also, during a test that followed the teaching of the plant cell structure, the group that used 3D scored a mean of 8.33 out of 10 while the others got an average of 7. This goes to how that technology does bring the need to know back to the mundane class lessons.

3. Students understand better when abstract concepts become reality

The other benefit that comes from 3D printing is that it bridges the gap between concepts that are not tangible and reality. For instance, most students have an idea about the structure of the solar system from drawings and illustrations on TV. However, when a geography teacher decides to recreate the planets and the sun using 3D imaging, the students take a keener interest in learning, improving their understanding and hence their scores.

The lessons that have come from 3D printing are countless. What is even more exciting is that what can be achieved with this technology is absolutely limitless. As the technology grows, one can only hope that it will be assimilated in all sectors because of the endless possibilities it presents.

4 Things to Keep in Mind When Moving to a New Location

4 Things to Keep in Mind When Moving to a New Location

Moving can be an exciting experience, but it the unknowns surrounding the move can make it a bit scary as well. If you have lived in the city, it may take some time to get used to the relative quiet of the suburbs or frequent encounters with animals in a rural setting. What are some other things to keep in mind when moving?

Give Yourself Plenty of Time to Complete the Transition

It can take several hours to complete a move across town or within your local area. In the event that you are moving to a new state, that process could easily take multiple days. Remember, there is more to a move than just putting your stuff in a new place. You have to make sure that you have your cable and internet turned on and that you can turn the lights on that first night in your new home.

Don’t Forget to Stop By the DMV

You will need to update your drivers license to reflect your change in address. If you move to a new state, you will need to turn in your old license and get a new one issued by that state. In addition to getting a new license, it may be necessary to register your vehicle and pay state sales tax when moving to a new state. It may also be necessary to change your address, which you can do online.

Get the Kids and Pets Ready for the Change

Your kids may not want to leave the only home that they have ever lived in. A long distance move may mean having to change schools and make new friends. If you have a cat, it will not be happy that its environment has been changed. Therefore, you may want to have it stay with a friend or relative until the move is completed to reduce the stress it will experience during the process.

You Don’t Have to Sell Your Home

If you are moving out of a home that you own, you don’t need to sell it before you leave. In fact, it may be easier to rent it and make money in the process. There is nothing wrong with living in an apartment or with any friends you may have in town until you get settled. This may be best for those who have to move quickly or think that the move is temporary.

Moving is an experience that almost everyone will go through. However, with good planning and advance preparation, you can make your move go as smoothly as possible. Good planning will also help your kids, pets and anyone else in your family get past the negatives and embrace the change that is coming.

4 Instant Perks of Utilizing Once-Fired Brass

4 Instant Perks of Utilizing Once-Fired Brass

Once-fired brass is a term that is used in the industry for a more broad definition of the term reloadable brass. Typically obtained from shooting ranges or military sources, once-fired brass is the casing from shells and ammunition that have been used once.  Let’s take a look at 4 instant perks of utilizing once-fired brass:

Cost Savings

One of the first things that you will notice being new to guns, is the fact that shooting can be expensive. There is the initial cost of your firearm, range fees (if you don’t have land), and then there is the expense of the shells – which can really add up. If you choose to reload ammunition with once fired brass, it can provide a cost savings. The level of savings depends on the type of gun the ammunition would be fun and the type of materials that are used – but there are savings nonetheless.

Customized Loads

One of the best benefits is being able to customize your reloads as you see fit. You are able to customize the ammunition based upon what you are shooting whether it is target practice or are hunting live game. You can change the amount of recoil – whether you want more or less. Variations can be achieved by adjusting the amount of powder that is used, changing the type of powder that is used, and/or the bullet weight in order to customize your own reloads.

Available Shells

Back a few years ago, ammunition was flying off the shelves and there was a concern that ammunition was going to be hard to get. Those that like once fired brass and can reload their own shells, and purchase supplies to make ammunition. Once doing so, are then able to create ammunition to have on hand.  Just be sure to store properly – you’ll want to avoid high heat and prevent exposure to moisture and humidity. Keep your eye out for any green showing on the brass casings. These are signs that your casings have not been stored properly, and should not be utilized.

You Gain a New Hobby

Many who have gotten into utilizing once fired brass and started reloading, find it to be a great hobby and enjoy it very much. You learn a lot more about the working of your weapon, how it is assembled, and what it really requires by way of ammunition. Continuing to learn and grow, experiment, while assembling optimized ammunition. This hobby is best enjoyed by those that are neat in nature with their workspaces, have a thirst for knowledge, and take their time in their work.

7 Tips to Shop for a Wedding Dress

7 Tips to Shop for a Wedding Dress

Shopping for your wedding dress can be a fun activity, yet it’s important as well as the dress is a focal point of the big day. Let’s take a look at some tips for shopping for your wedding dress.

Call for an Appointment

Different salons carry different designers and different style dresses. If you had seen a dress online and you are interested in trying it on, when you call to make the appointment – ask and make sure they have it there. Depending on the designer they may need 4-5 months to create the dress, and then fittings will need to be completed. The amount of fittings and length of time between fittings can vary. It can take a total of 6-12 months for the entire process. Rushing the process may be possible for an additional fee.

How to Select the Right Irrigation System for Your Lawn

How to Select the Right Irrigation System for Your Lawn

A lush, green yard is the goal of every homeowner, and some parts of the country achieve this with just what falls from the sky. For others, a yard irrigation system is a must. Even in regions with adequate rainfall, dry spells still justify installing one. Besides, extra water on a regular basis not only keeps the grass greener, it helps control weeds by making the grass more competitive. There are three types of irrigation methods suited to the residential lawn, in-ground drip lines, pop-up sprayers, and rotary sprinklers, and determining which is best depends on such factors as lawn size, lawn shape, slope, and the amount of money the homeowner is willing to spend. It should also be noted that a combination of these three techniques can work nicely in a single yard.

In-ground Drip Lines
This method stands out for its extreme water conservation. Tubing perforated with small holes is placed below ground to provide a gradual supply of water directly to plant roots. With the water released beneath the surface, there’s very little evaporation. One drawback to this method is that the water doesn’t radiate out very far. This means watering lines have to be spaced pretty close, so a lot of them will have to be installed at greater initial cost. In a particularly arid part of the country, this might be cost-effective, but elsewhere, this only makes possible sense for irrigating a long, very narrow stretch of turf.

Sprayers
In terms of water usage, this technique is the most wasteful. Because it can broadcast water much farther than drip lines, it won’t require nearly as much piping.  In areas where water is plentiful and the soil is level, loose, and porous, the continual output produced by the spray heads is easily absorbed. This type of irrigation system is also able to broadcast water in rectangular patterns that fit within the typical straight borders of a suburban yard.

Rotary Sprinklers
While not as water efficient as drip irrigation, rotary sprinklers don’t consume as much as sprayers do. These systems rely on either impact heads or gear-driven heads. Since a light amount of water is delivered to a spot at a time while the stream moves on, sloped or heavy clay soils have time to soak up the water before the next pass is made. Impact-style heads are extremely rugged and can launch a jet of water dozens of yards, so only a few are needed. Installation costs are below the two alternatives. Gear-driven heads can project water as little as 15 feet, so this system can be fitted to relatively small lawns.
