A lot of people don’t realize that stress is a response to what we perceive to be a threatening situation. Anxiety is the reaction to feeling stress. One out of every three people suffers some level of stress when they have to fly for a variety of reasons. If you get stressed when you have to fly, there are methods to manage your anxiety and reduce its negative effects.
1. Make sure to get enough rest before your flight. You don’t want to begin your trip feeling fatigued. 4. Visualize having a safe and relaxing flight. Worrying only creates more stress. Whatever situation should come up, whether it’s a missed connection or a delay in your flight, stressing about it won’t make the situation any easier. Resist the temptation to be rude. Airport officials are less likely to cooperate with a passenger that’s being disruptive.
5. Stay hydrated on the flight. The air in planes is quite dry, and you can get dehydrated faster than when you’re getting fresh air. Dehydration can cause unnecessary worries and fear. Drink sufficient water and avoid alcohol and drinks with caffeine.
6. If you’re flying for business, you can take the time while you’re flying to relax and get some rest instead of working. A long flight is an excellent time for a relaxing nap. If you’re traveling to a different time zone, set your watch to the new time zone before your flight. Psychologically, it’s easier to adjust to the new time and avoid jet lag.
Unexpected situations can arise when you’re flying, but if you follow these simple tips, you’re less likely to become stressed and arrive at your destination rested and relaxed.
